“Hello. My name is Lauren and I have known Melanie since right before she turned 17 years old. We met in May of 1994. While she has sisters that have been an integral part of her life, her whole life, I am one of her  established relationships that shares deep emotional and spiritual intimacy without the bloodline. I had just been discharged from the United States Marine Corps in January of 1993. To say I was uptight and wound up in a brainwashed kind of conservatism, would be an understatement!

Meeting Melanie was like being introduced to a side of life that I had only ever heard existed. She was fun, free spirited, beautiful and engaging. However, if you looked into her eyes, you knew that she was older, by life experience, then her years. She carried herself in a duality. Open and guarded. Joyful yet having known deep pain. And this was at 17. From our first introduction we clicked. And I believed that no matter where our individual paths were to take us they would always have us running into each other over the course of our lifetimes. Before 1994 was over Melanie and the group of young women I was now hanging out with introduced me to the  house music scene and the drugs that went with it. The music was amazing, the people were gorgeous and the fun was absolutely addictive.

Melanie taught me the ropes: how to dress and dance, introduced me to all the "cool kids", informed me about which drugs were clean or dirty and kept me safe. By this time Melanie was 18 and I was 32. All of our time together was not spent partying. As we became closer and she started to tell me more about herself I was completely floored. The places she had already been in life, some good and some bad, could truly have been written as a rom com/adventure/fiction novel. Yet her experiences have all been real. Twenty seven years later I am so proud of her and where her journey has brought her.

And I am excited that she is ready to share her amazing self and story with those who are ready to hear it. Her message will bring hope and scope to people who need to be encouraged to make change happen in their lives. She will revive the Spirit in people who believe that theirs has been lost or broken.
